Healing from Depression, Anxiety & Chronic Pain: My Body Became the Guide, Not the Problem
What happened when I stopped fighting my symptoms and started following their wisdom.
After years of managing symptoms, medications, menopause, and exhaustion, I finally listened—and everything shifted. This is my journey from chronic pain, depression, and anxiety to discovering the healing power of body communication. My body became my guide, not my project.
For years, I lived like a passenger in my own body—arrived by habits, beliefs, and noise that didn't belong to me. I thought I understood health and happiness... until life unraveled everything I thought I knew and revealed a deeper truth.
I was depleted—physically, emotionally, spiritually. I was on six prescriptions: for anxiety, depression, hair loss, digestive pain, sleep, and skin inflammation. My body was speaking, but I had no idea how to listen.
The Grief That Returned Me to Myself
On December 11, 2020, my husband Duncan passed---just nine months after a cancer diagnosis that changed everything.
The morning after, I collapsed into grief. I didn't try to be strong. I wanted to be held, to be rescued. But the one who had always held me was gone.
And in that silence, something shifted. The comfort I longed for wasn't outside me. It had lived through him—but it was always guiding me back to myself.
When I Found My True Sight
A few months later, I was curled on the sofa, a candle burning, numbing myself with Netflix. The flame suddenly flared. I heard, clear and calm: "Pick up your camera."
I did. That's when I saw it---a soft blue orb hovering above the flame. And in that moment, I didn't just remember him. I felt him.
That moment became a doorway. I started seeing light energy without the camera. I began perceiving more, feeling more. My intuitive senses expanded. A reality I'd dismissed opened itself fully to me.
What I didn't know then was that grief, chronic stress, and disconnection create measurable changes in our nervous system and cellular function. When we're stuck in survival mode—fight, flight, or freeze—our bodies can't access their natural healing intelligence. But in that moment of profound stillness, my nervous system finally felt safe enough to shift.
Somatic Healing: Listening Instead of Resisting Became My Medicine
What followed wasn't just mystical—it was cellular. I began to treat every symptom as communication from my nervous system, not failure.
Anxiety? My body asking for safety and stillness.
Fatigue? A call to receive rather than constantly give.

I had been in full menopause for over two years. Most doctors say once you're that far past your last cycle, it's permanent. This was the perfect test.
So I began gently instructing my body, speaking directly to my reproductive system with love and intention. I told my body: "Show me you're listening, restart my menstrual cycle."
Six months later, my period returned—seven times that year. Not for fertility. For proof. For remembering what my body could do when I trusted its intelligence.
But the most powerful return wasn't physical, it was joy.
Today, I live with more vitality and grounded clarity than I ever did in my twenties or thirties. Now, approaching sixty, I wake with energy, direction, and a quiet thrill for what's ahead.
